This weekend is shaping up to be one of the coldest in NYC in many years. And for most it’s a holiday weekend that also includes Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking to do more than stay inside and catch up on the all those shows in your streaming queue – here are a few ideas.
Museums
Admittedly a bit of an obvious choice but the museums we are recommending combine world-class collections with equally elevated dining choices-all in the same building.
Museum of Modern Art 11 West 53rd Street
In addition to one of the world’s best collections of modern and contemporary art, MoMA also houses a Michelin-starred restaurant, The Modern.

Whitney Museum of American Art 99 Gansevoort Street
The recently reopened Whitney gets raves for its new space, its collections and Untitled, the fine-dining restaurant that is a destination spot on its own.
Bowling
Yeah it’s a bit hokey but can be nostalgic fun. As a bonus you can add to your day’s step count while enjoying your bowling and refreshments . Here are a couple of suggestions for your bowling destination.
Lucky Strike 624-660 West 42nd Street
Huge space that includes 26 lanes plus billiards, Ping-Pong, and several big screen TV’s.
Bowlmor Chelsea Piers Pier 60– 23rd Street and the Westside Highway
Another multi-attraction bowling venue that includes billiards, Ping-Pong and arcade games.
Shopping
It is President’s Weekend so you may be able to combine your indoor activity with some great sales.
Brookfield Place – 230 Vesey Street
Recently opened luxury mall in the space formerly known as the World Financial Center. You may not find too many bargains here but you will be able to spend several hours shopping, eating and drinking at the many restaurants in Brookfield Place or the Hudson Eats food hall. And if all the indoor time inspires you to head out, the skating rink at Brookfield Place is just outside.

Saks 611 Fifth avenue
The size of Saks will ensure you can spend hours browsing through the different floors and designer collections. Saks also houses SFA Café - a casual dining spot with beautiful views so you can make a day of it.
Bergdorf Goodman 754 Fifth Avenue
High-end store with world-class service. Probably not a place to hunt for for bargains, but if you want to splurge or just browse this is a wonderful spot. You can also visit BG Restaurant for casual fare or afternoon tea while enjoying views of Central Park.

Food Tasting in a Food Hall
It seems like a new food hall opens every couple of months in NYC so there are plenty of choices. The best ones have brought together (under one roof – read INDOORS) some of the best food purveyors from across NYC. It’s worth taking a quick walk through the hall to get an overview of the choices and make a plan. You can easily spend several hours taste testing the wide variety of offerings.
Gotham West 550 West 45th Street
Located in Hell’s Kitchen, this spot has many interesting and varied choices. You can really taste your way around the world.
The Plaza Food Hall 1 West 59th Street
More of a combination of food court, retail and co-located restaurants but there are plenty of good choices. Bonus you are inside the Plaza Hotel so you can do a little walk through of the beautiful lobby or have a drink at the Palm Court.
Eataly 200 Fifth Avenue @ 23rd Street
This Italian-themed food hall combines casual restaurants, food counters and plenty of interesting retail shops. They also host cooking demonstrations and tastings throughout the week.
